Veteran Somali journalist Ali Muse Abdi passed away, his family and friend announced his death on Thursday.
His former colleague, Hassan Barise, said he talked to him four nights ago and that Abdi appeared to be in good spirits. However, Abdi had been battling diabetes for years.
Former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire and other senior politicians extended their condolences to Abdi’s family, eulogizing him as an experienced journalist who loved his country and his people.
“Today, we lost a very creative and talented friend who meant a lot to us,” Khaire wrote on his Facebook.
Ali worked with several local and international media institutions throughout his career, including AFP, BBC and ANSA news agency.
