US forces fired a drone strike against Al-Shabaab militants Lower Shabelle region on Wednesday, AFRICOM said in a statement.
According to the statement, the forces conducted the airstrike in support of Somali National Army who had come under attack from Al Shabaab in Duduble area in Lower Shabelle region.
“A battle-damage assessment is still pending. The command’s initial assessment is that no civilians were injured or killed as a result of this airstrike,” AFRICOM said.
Al-Shabaab claimed on its affiliate media that there were no casualties during the strike but said it killed three Somali soldier’s in the fighting.
AFRICOM has conducted few strikes against Al-Shabaab targets so far this year compared to the last two years.
